Your game hit my sweetspot of pixel art retro styled games so i totally enjoyed it. I loved the idea, the way the notes you pick up told the story and the end scientist is a beauty to behold. I included it in  a video i made of the Virtus Game Jam, I hope you don't mind!

I love the audio and the look of the game. A few suggestions though: I would prefer if bringing up the menus would actually pause the game. Although not a huge deal, it is nice to have that option. Also, when I was reading a note and closed the item menu I had to reopen the item menu,  click on the item to get rid of that view and then reclose the item menu again. I did also come across a debug error and it forced me to restart. However, overall you did a great  job and excited to see more future work! 

Solid concept and a decent start, but I think some of the mechanics aren't working correctly. The ranged attack didn't do any damage, and the lack of animations on the enemies made it hard to tell if/when you were going to take damage.
